Bengals

14 July 2010

las happens 3 weeks from Sunday, so there's hope. That being said, let's talk some preliminary Bengals stuff:

Cedric Benson: I have to admit, I was really disappointed to see that Benson put himself in such a dumb situation and found himself arrested.  This has been a problem for the league and continues to give haters more fuel for trash-talk.  I'm hoping that Benson is not suspended by the league, but can't say I would be surprised if he were.  The power running game would greatly suffer if he had to miss the first two to four games as Cincy has to go to New England and also go against Baltimore's ridiculous run defense in week 2.  We need Benson to play in these two games for sure.

and the NYG last week in the Texas palace.  But the thing that has me the most excited is the Bengals' defense.  They played hard all preseason, did really well agaianst Denver, minus that stupid Hail Mary, and recorded 6 sacks on Aaron Rodgers last week.  This defense finished 15th last year and I feel they are well on their way to being a top 10 unit.  With Odom healthy, it's easy to see why Cincy shelled out so much money for him last offseason.  He has 7 sacks on the season (which leads the NFL) and works really well on third downs with Geathers on one end, Michael Johnson on the other, and Odom inside.  This combo causes a lot of problems for the offenses and I feel that it will again this week against Pittsburgh.

With voluntary camp just around the corner, the usual question of “will Chad show up?” is on a lot of peoples minds, except Carson Palmer.  Carson seems to be very happy with the fact that Chris Henry will most likely fill in for Chad if he elects to forgo showing up once again this year.  Carson has always been on the side of Henry even through his legal troubles and sees tremendous potential in Henry’s receiving ability.  Stating, "He has a great attitude. I'm just really proud of the guy. I'm happy for him. He's at a good place in his life, a good place for his family. He's showed up to work here and he will all year long. There's not a doubt about that."

With the release of Edgerrin James by the Arizona Cardinals, the Bengal’s may have a shot at picking up a veteran back that can backup Cedric Benson. Will they pull the trigger on this deal?... probably not. After the draft and release of Chris Perry, I highly doubt the Bengal’s will chase after a potentially washed out running back, yet I would applaud him being a Bengal.

Chris Perry along with 5 other players were cut yesterday in order to make room for the players drafted this past weekend.  While I was never a huge Perry fan, we did waste a 1st round pick on him and I always wished eh would succeed and become a franchise back if not a 3rd down option…yet that never came to be.  With his release his fate as an NFL rusher is pretty much sealed.

Just when I thought the Bengals season couldn’t get any worse( started 0-7, Carson palmer won’t play yet again/ has hardly played this year, Mike Brown continues to bring in convicts, Jeremy Johnson going down for the season in training camp, and the horrible offseason moves Mike Brown made) Keith Rivers goes down for the season with a broken jaw. While it was a legal block by Hines Ward on Keith Rivers (and had I been a Steelers fan I would have respected/celebrated the hit), I do feel it was quite vicious and excessive.

Just when I thought the Bengals couldn’t get any worse after an o and 4 start, they go and pick up another player in legal trouble.  That’s right, not only is Chris Henry allowed playing in this week’s game; now Cedric Benson can join him on the field.  I honestly believe that the

Bengals over Browns – I am very confident that Quinn will get into the game due to poor play by Derek Anderson.  I am also confident that due to this move it will put the Browns in a horrible position resulting in many turnovers.  Our offense is finally back on track, our receivers are past “pre-season” mode according to Marvin Lewis and we’re due for a win.

It seems like every website/ newspaper across the country wrote a small piece about the Bengals today.  Most of these articles were stating that although the Bengals are 0 and 3 on the season, they are the most upbeat of the winless teams this year, while the others stated that the true fans are back on board after Sunday’s loss to the Giants.    While I agree that as a

2 September 2008

It appears that Joe Flacco has been named the starter against the Bengals.  This could be a great sign for the first game.  I was a little apprehensive if Troy Smith got the start simply due to the fact that he is quite mobile and we simply don't have the experience linebackers to chase him around.  Yet by some luck he still has a viral infection so we may have a chance at taking a run at their rookie.  Although it would be nice to see an OSU boy play...

Is it just me or does it look like at the end of this year the bengals will have a top 5 draft pick?  First we bring Chris Henry back after we cut him to "teach him a lesson."  Then we decided to cut arguably one of the best tackles in bengals history (W. Anderson), a probowl running back (R. Johnson), and a pro bowl defensive back (D. O'neal).  While i understand how Rudi was losing the starting running back race to Chris Perry, I can't believe that we didn't at least try to trade him for a solid 3rd receiver until Henry is healthy.  The Bears are dying for a running back of Johnsons  caliber, yet they don;t have any receivers worth taking so I understand why nothing came of that.  Yet Deltha O'neal was picked up by the Patriots as soon as it was possible to have a contract finalized...I hate to say it but they seem to have the "winning solution" down, so i think they know something more then we do.  Anderson should have been kept out of respect, but mainly for the reason that our offensive line let Palmer get slaughtered during the preseason and we need anyone who could help.  Thus I conclude that we are headed no where this season.  while I am a die hard fan and I'm sue it won;t come across this way, I can't get over the evidence that we are headed down the gutter.

18 December 2007

The Cincinnati Bengals announced today that wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh was named to the first team for the Pro Bowl. Congratulations go out to a hard working receiver that always goes the extra mile to come up with the big play. Houshmandzadeh has had an incredible season on a team that has performed in a sub-par manner. T.J. has, as of the end of game fourteen, 101 catches, 1,028 yards and eleven touchdowns. Teammate Chad Johnson has more receiving yards with 1,265, but only six touchdowns in earning a back-up spot on the Pro-Bowl team. T.J. has long been considered one of the best number two receivers in the NFL. Most experts agree that Housh could be the number one guy on virtually any other team in the league. Has he become the number one guy for Cincinnati? He certainly appears to be the man Palmer goes to on third and long. T.J. demonstrates tremendous hands in catching the tight balls. He also shows he isn't afraid to take a hit. He has nearly twice as many touchdowns as Chad and is usually less outspoken than his counterpart. Perhaps the
